Monster Brownies – A Boooo-rific Sweet Treat

Halloween is just a round the corner and that means it is time for Monster themed treats… and these Monster Brownies are just what this Halloween needs.

A Monster Brownie with Options

The beauty of these brownies are all the options.

First – you can use a box brownie mix if you would like.  If you have a favorite one use it…I would recommend one that bakes up a bit on the darker chocolate side just so the marshmallow web stands out more, but whatever you have on hand will work.

Second – you can make this gluten and dairy free.  Just replace the flour and butter with your diet friendly ingredients and the recipe should work the same.

Third – you can color the marshmallow web if you would like, just add in a  bit of food color as your stir the melted marshmallows.

Last – you can use whatever sprinkles you have on hand.  We love eyeballs so I went with those but any halloween themed sprinkle, or combo of sprinkles you like, will work – like the ones we used for these Monster Cookies

It’s all about the Web!

Whatever your plans are for this Halloween sweets are always a must and these Monster Brownies are the perfect treat.  They are rich, decadent and with a bit of marshmallow in each bite they make the perfect spooky bite.

The marshmallow web is what makes these brownies super special, and you would not believe just how easy it is.  By simple I mean, you melt the marshmallows and then “web” then across the brownies.  You can use your hands (I would recommend gloves sprayed with nonstick spray) or you can use forks, either way works well.

You can also get the kids involved by adding the sprinkles and eye balls… they are always about a good sprinkle time.

It is Brownie Time!

Ingredients

1 cup butter, cooled
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
4 eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 cup flour
1 cup cocoa powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup chocolate chips (or any chips you prefer)
1 - 12 oz bag marshmallows
1/4 - 1/2 cup sprinkles of your choice (I really love the eyes)

Directions

Preheat oven to 350
Line a 9x13 pan with parchment paper, this is a must for the webbing
In a large bowl mix together butter & sugars until well combined
Add in eggs, one at a time, mixing well
Add in vanilla and stir until just combined
Sift (I highly recommend sifting to prevent lumps) the flour and cocoa powder into butter mixture
Add in salt and stir until just combined, careful to not over mix
Add in chocolate chips and stir until evenly distributed
Pour batter into prepared pan
Bake for 23-25 minutes, or until desired doneness - I prefer a more gooey brownie
Let cool in pan for 10 minutes and then remove and let cool on parchment paper completely
Once cooled in a large microwave safe bowl, heat marshmallows in microwave on high in 20 second increments, stirring until melted
Once melted using 2 forks or your hands spread marshmallows over brownies in thin strands creating a web, make sure to work quickly before the marshmallows get too cool
Spread the sprinkles and eyeballs over the webbing quickly so they will stick
Let cool for 10-15 minutes, to allow everything to set up, and then serve
ENJOY!
