• Gravy, please

When you ask The Hubby what he wants for breakfast his typical answer usually is biscuits and gravy.  Now his new favorite biscuits are these butter biscuits and his favorite gravy is this sausage gravy…so I bring you The Hubby’s Dream Breakfast. Don’t be afraid of gravy (like I used to be)… So when I first started cooking there were 2 things that I just couldn’t get the hang of…gravy and crust.  Now I know some of you are probably laughing and shaking your head and trust me I did as well.  I would ask myself why I couldn’t get these simple recipes down each time I would try to…

Bring on the Biscuits What do you love about biscuits most?  For me it is a crunchy top and a fluffy center.  And the taller the better.  These butter biscuits are tall, with a  crunchy outside and a super fluffy inside…oh yeah and they are cookies in butter.  These are pretty much the perfect biscuit. It starts with butter… So first…

  • Homemade is so much better

I could eat some type of Mexican food EVERY meal.   Given how much I love Mexican food I have been working on a staple in my kitchen…enchilada sauce.  Finally I have created one that I LOVE and that is perfect for all my casseroles, soups and of course, enchiladas. Homemade is worth it First off…look at the color.  Isn’t it beautiful?  I love the deep reddish, orange color with the bits of spices and herbs running through it.  It adds a beautiful color to your dishes for sure. Secondly the taste.  This sauce has a little heat from the chili powder, but not too much.  It also has a…

  • Brown Sugar + Buttermilk = YUMMY Pie

Thanksgiving is in 4 days.  YES, only 4 more days until it is TURKEY time.  Now I know you probably already have your menu set, but you might want to rethink the dessert table for this super simple, but AMAZING Brown Sugar Buttermilk Chess Pie. Pie like no other Do you have a favorite pie from childhood?  You know that one pie that someone special made, or one that you always got a particular restaurant if you were “good”.  For my mom that pie is Buttermilk Chess Pie from Furr’s Cafeteria. My mom grew up in Brownfield, Texas.  It is a small town in West Texas not too far from…

  • Like no Brownie (Pie) I have ever had

  • a twist on a sugar cookie

I love cookies.  Chocolate chip cookies, shortbread cookies, brownie cookies, sugar cookies, peanut butter cookies…really ANY cookie.   A few weeks ago I decided to bring 2 of my favorites together into one delicious cookie and make a Peanut Butter Sugar Cookie. A little something for everyone Each fall The Hubby takes some of his customers little yummies with calendars from his company.  This year he wanted cookies to give out.  He asked for his favorite chocolate chip cookies (recipe will be posted soon) and also for a peanut butter cookie. Well I couldn’t give him 2 traditional cookies, so I decided to change up the peanut butter cookie a little, don’t…

  • Mom Dibert’s Corn Casserole

The sis-in-Law’s mom, Cathleen is an amazing cook.  Everything I have had from her has been so, so good.   She is very well known for her pies, but she is also known for this corn casserole. Bring on the corn When Cathleen said she wanted to bring this casserole to our Early Thanksgiving Pot Luck Dinner I was so excited.  I personally LOVE corn casserole, and my brother had told me how good her was so I couldn’t wait to try it.   A few days before though she told me she wasn’t sure if she could make it as they were having new floors installed and she didn’t…

  • Bourbon + Bacon this Thanksgiving

Every Thanksgiving there is always a sweet potato casserole of some kind.  Last year I did a casserole that had a little something for everyone (recipe can be found here) but this year I wanted to take it to the next level. It all starts with Bacon In my family if you want to make everyone happy you can add bacon to it and everyone will LOVE it.  I was hoping this little trick would work for sweet potatoes as well.  You see there are a few people in my sweet family that are not sweet potato fans.  This is proof that not all people are perfect, just kidding (not…
