A last minute must make

New Years Eve is here!  I cannot believe 2017 starts tomorrow.  2016 has been a crazy year and I want to make sure to finish it off with a bang, and these Sausage Balls are a perfect way to do that.

Bring on the balls

These have been a must have at all of our holiday parties since I was a little girl.  They were always a favorite of mine, but especially of my brothers.

To this day the minute December 1 hits my brother calls me and asks for this recipe because it is sausage ball season.

Simple and so good

The funny thing is my mom made this recipe straight from the Bisquick box, and we have never varied much from that basic recipe.  You know the one I am talking about…it only has 3 ingredients but tastes so, so good.

I know there are some recipes out there that have cream cheese and other variations out there but in my family the original version is the best.

Ingredients

1 pound pork breakfast sausage (hot or regular)
2-3 cups Bisquick baking mix
2 cups shredded cheese (I use a colby blend or mexican blend, but cheddar is good too)
For some heat a dash (or 2) of cayenne

Directions

Preheat oven to 350
Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper
In a large mixing bowl combine (I use my hands) sausage and 2 cups Bisquick until well combined
If dough is not staying together add in more Bisquick until desired consistency is reached
Add in cheese and mix until just combined
Roll sausage dough into 1 - 1 1/2 inch balls and place on prepared pan
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until tops start to brown and balls are cooked through
Serve & ENJOY!!

A last minute wonder

I have learned over time to always keep some sausage, bisquick and cheese on hand as these are a perfect last minute treat for peeps who may just pop in.  They are also a perfect treat for a fun family game or movie night as well.

Make tonight & this next year sparkle – MJ
